The Indian River County Sheriff Department is comprised of the following eight Divisions: Corrections, Information Services, Investigations, Judicial Services, Sheriff Services, Support Services, Uniform Services, and Volunteer Services.
The Corrections Division provides services regarding case investigations and other affairs. This includes the Detective Bureau and Crime Scene. This Division is comprised of 129 professionals; 109 sworn positions and 20 civilian positions. They all work towards the common goal of ensuring a safe, secure and constitutionally fit correctional operation. The Jail Administration Unit consists of one 2nd Lieutenant, 2 Sergeants and 5 Civilian members: 1 Senior Staff Assistant, 2 Inmate Records, 1 Commissary / Inmate Accounts, and 1 Staff Assistant.
The facility is comprised of approximately 90,000 square feet, with 25 separate inmate housing units of various custody levels and capacities, 4 negative pressure cells and 2 medical infirmary cells for a total optimum bed capacity of 385 and a total bed capacity of 453 (including all administrative segregation cells used for temporary inmate housing.) There is one Sergeant, three Crime Scene Technicians, one Fingerprint Technician and one Evidence Custodian in the Crime Scene Unit. This Unit is responsible for crime scene processing and reconstruction. The Criminal Invitigations Division is form by 45 employees: one Captain, two Lieutenants, four Sergeants, fourteen Detectives, two Crime Prevention Deputies, two Crime Analysts, three Victim Advocates, three Crime Scene Detectives, one Fingerprint Technician, one Evidence Custodian, five MACE Detectives, one D.E.A. Sheriff Services provide administrative and clerical services to the operations of the IRCSO.
